What are printed cotton tote bags?

Cotton tote bags are reusable fabric bags made from 100% cotton in plain or twill weave, printed or embroidered with a company logo as a promotional item. Typical fabric weights range from 140 g/m² (standard) through 180–220 g/m² (premium) to 260–340 g/m² (canvas), with a load capacity of around 5–7 kg and 10–15 kg respectively. Because cotton is washable, the bag stays in use for years – and every use is another brand impression.

Cotton – the natural fibre for long-lasting branded bags

Cotton tote bags are the classics among sustainable promotional products: pleasant to hold, versatile and reusable time and again. We make them from 100% cotton in plain or twill weave. The matt, textile surface is hard-wearing and takes your logo cleanly – turning a shopping bag into a brand carrier that stays visible in everyday life.

Choose between raw, unbleached natural cream-beige, bleached white for especially vibrant print colours, or fully dyed fabric. On request, we use certified organic cotton to GOTS. The fabric weight determines look, feel and load capacity: 140 g/m² as the cost-conscious standard, 180–220 g/m² as a sturdier premium quality, and canvas from 260 g/m² for particularly tear-resistant tote bags.

Finishing options include classic screen printing – economical and opaque even on natural fabric – photorealistic transfer or DTF printing, and premium embroidery. For organic versions, we can use GOTS-certified inks on request, so the certification is preserved on the finished product.

How we print and finish your cotton tote bags

  • Screen printing carousel with printed cotton bags in the ShopyBag production facility

    Screen printing

The economical choice for trade fair giveaways and retail runs: opaque, vibrant colours and excellent durability for medium to large quantities, particularly cost-effective for one- or few-colour logos. Silver or gold printing is also possible.

  • Embroidery machine stitching a green logo onto a cotton bag

    Embroidery

The most premium finish for corporate gifts and high-end presents. An embroidered logo looks refined, is extremely durable and colourfast – and signals appreciation when the bag is given as a gift.

  • Employee placing printed cotton bags on a carousel transfer press

    Heat transfer printing

For detailed, multi-colour or photorealistic campaign designs. Transfer or DTF printing reproduces fine gradients cleanly on the fabric and remains flexible even for smaller quantities.

  • Printed cotton bag with a colourful design in the print shop

    DTG printing (direct to garment)

Direct printing into the fibre for vibrant, multi-colour designs with a soft hand feel. Suitable for fine gradients and smaller runs without high set-up costs – such as limited editions or test runs.

Which applications and industries are cotton tote bags best suited to?

Cotton tote bags are particularly well suited to premium retail and concept stores as a reusable carrier bag, to corporate gifts and employee gifts with an embroidered logo, and to trade fair and event giveaways that people keep. Wherever detailed branding, a premium perception and long-term reuse matter, cotton is the right choice.

Is cotton the right material for a premium corporate gift?

Yes, cotton is an excellent choice for high-quality corporate gifts – especially with embroidery, as an embroidered logo looks refined and signals appreciation. If the gift is meant to make a structured design statement, felt is the alternative; for a visible commitment to natural materials, jute is the right fit. We advise you according to the occasion.

How often can a cotton tote bag be reused?

As a robust, washable natural fibre, a cotton tote bag accompanies its users for years. Every use – for shopping, at the office or in their free time – is another public brand impression. This significantly lowers the cost per impression compared with one-off giveaways.

Is a cotton tote bag suitable as a carrier bag or shipping solution?

As a carrier bag in premium and concept-store retail, cotton is ideal: high-quality, reusable and printable in fine detail. For shipping with exposure to moisture or for very heavy, damp goods, however, we recommend water-repellent PP woven. Cotton plays to its strengths in dry, brand-focused use.

Which fabric weight is right for printed cotton tote bags?

Load capacity increases with fabric weight: 140 g/m² is the cost-conscious standard for lightweight cotton bags and high-volume trade fair giveaways, 180–220 g/m² is the sturdier premium quality, and canvas from 260 g/m² is the tear-resistant option for heavy shopping. In terms of colour, we supply raw, bleached or fully dyed fabric. We tailor fabric weight, format and finish to your application.

Can cotton tote bags with a logo be washed?

Yes, cotton is washable – which is exactly what enables years of reuse and, with it, the recurring visibility of your brand. The appropriate washing temperature depends on the dyeing and finishing. You receive specific care instructions for the version you order, so your logo and look last a long time.

Guide: Cotton tote bags – what your brand should know

Where cotton tote bags create the most brand value

The value of a cotton tote bag is not created at the moment it is handed over, but in the years that follow. Because the natural fibre is robust and washable, the bag becomes part of your customers’ everyday lives – for shopping, at the office, in their free time. Each of these uses is another public brand impression. What counts, then, is less the unit price than the cost per impression: a one-off giveaway creates one impression, a cotton tote bag used for years creates dozens.

This is particularly effective in premium retail and concept stores. A quality cotton tote bag at the till is not thrown away but deliberately reused. The fine, densely woven surface takes detailed, multi-colour logos cleanly, so your branding stays presentable even after washing and long use.

Use cases: from the till to the trade fair stand to the corporate gift

At the point of sale, the cotton tote bag serves as a premium carrier bag – sold or included with a purchase – that enhances the shopping experience. At trade fairs and events, it is a giveaway that people keep: unlike a flyer, it does not end up in the bin but is carried away from the stand fully loaded – visible to every other visitor. Fabric weight lets us tailor the bag to its use: lighter qualities for high-volume trade fair giveaways, heavier ones for hard-wearing premium shopping bags.

Cotton makes its strongest impression as a corporate gift or employee gift – here, an embroidered logo underlines the appreciation you want to express. We supply the bags raw, bleached or fully dyed, so colour and look match your campaign or store line exactly. One material thus covers the full range, from cost-sensitive mass giveaways to high-end gift sets.

What your brand gains

Every further use of the bag extends your brand reach without additional media spend – the promotional item keeps working after a one-off investment. For brands with sustainability ambitions, this advantage can optionally be combined with certified organic cotton to form a credible message.

At the end of its long life, the pure natural fibre is biodegradable. For your procurement team, that means a promotional item that signals conscious consumption, rather than contradicting your brand values as a short-lived plastic article.

Cotton or another material?

Cotton is the right choice when detailed branding, a premium perception and long-term reuse need to come together. For heavy, damp or dripping goods – drinks, fresh produce, shipping with exposure to moisture – water-repellent PP woven is better suited. If the bag itself is meant to make a visible natural statement, jute with its rustic look is the stronger option; for a structured design statement at conferences and as gifts, felt is the alternative. For high-quality single-use packaging at the point of sale, paper remains the better fit.
