What are non-woven bags?

Non-woven bags are carrier bags made from 100 % polypropylene non-woven fabric, produced by the spunbond process from thermally bonded continuous filaments – in other words, without weaving. At 70–120 g/m², they are lightweight and foldable, water-repellent, tear-resistant and carry up to approx. 12 kg. Because they are inexpensive to produce in large runs and can be printed over large areas, they are mainly used as promotional bags, shoppers or drawstring bags for promotions, trade fairs and retail.

Non-woven: the cost-effective promotional bag

Non-woven bags are the cost-efficient all-round solution when large runs and a clear brand image come together. Alongside classic carrier bags and shoppers, we also use non-woven fabric to make backpacks, drawstring bags, bottle bags and cooler bags. They are made from 100 % polypropylene using the spunbond process: fine continuous filaments are thermally bonded into a flat non-woven fabric. The result is lightweight, flexible and hard-wearing at the same time.

The matt, slightly fibrous non-woven surface absorbs ink richly and evenly. This provides a large, calm print area on which your logo stands out clearly, without any textile sheen. One- to three-colour designs are particularly cost-effective in screen printing, multicolour designs in transfer or DTF printing.

Water-repellent, tear-resistant and able to carry up to approx. 12 kg, PP non-woven is one of the most durable low-cost carrier bag materials and can be reused many times. Its environmental benefit comes from repeated use: every use replaces a single-use carrier, and at the end of its life the single-material polypropylene is 100 % recyclable.

Printing non-woven bags

  • Screen printing carousel with printed cotton bags in the ShopyBag production facility

    Screen printing

The cost-effective classic for promotional quantities: high opacity and low unit costs for one- or few-colour logos – the first choice for large giveaway or checkout runs.

  • Employee placing printed cotton bags on a carousel transfer press

    Heat transfer printing

The design is pre-printed and transferred onto the non-woven fabric. Suitable for multicolour or fine designs that are not economical in screen printing – including smaller event and promotional series.

  • Transfer film being peeled from a printed wildflower design on a cotton bag

    DTF printing (direct to film)

Brings photorealistic, multicolour campaign designs onto non-woven fabric without screen costs. Flexible for gradients and small to medium quantities, for example for limited promotions.

  • Flexographic printing press printing a green leaf design onto a non-woven fabric web

    Flexographic printing

Full-surface factory printing: for very large runs, the material is printed during production – for borderless designs that turn the entire bag into advertising space.

Which applications are non-woven bags particularly suited to?

Wherever reach and quantity count: in retail as a checkout bag, at trade fairs and events as a giveaway, for campaigns and openings as a mass handout, and in e-commerce as an enclosed carrier bag. Non-woven offers plenty of advertising space at low unit costs.

How often can a non-woven bag be reused?

Non-woven is tear-resistant enough for repeated use and replaces a single-use carrier every time it is used. Because the bag is lightweight and foldable, it stays part of recipients’ everyday lives and generates new brand contacts for weeks. We control its strength through the fabric weight, between 70 and 120 g/m².

Which non-woven bag models are available – including drawstring bags?

Alongside the classic carrier bag (classic or ultrasonically welded) and the shopper with bottom gusset, we also make backpacks and drawstring bags, bottle and cooler bags, and shaped novelty bags from PP non-woven. All models can be printed with your logo.

When is another material better than non-woven?

For high-quality corporate gifts or gift sets, we recommend felt, cotton or jute, as feel and perceived value take centre stage there. For heavy, wet goods, coated PP woven is the more robust alternative. Non-woven is the right choice when reach, quantity and a low cost per contact matter.

Can I have my design printed over a large area and in multiple colours?

Yes. The matt surface absorbs ink very well and delivers bold results. We print one- or few-colour logos cost-effectively by screen printing, and multicolour or photorealistic designs by transfer or DTF printing; for very large runs, full-surface factory printing is possible.

Is there an approval sample before series production?

Yes. Especially for high quantities, we provide material samples in advance and, on request, printed approval samples so you can check the fabric weight and print result before production starts. We quote minimum quantities and lead times based on your application – write to us at hello@shopybag.com.

Guide: Non-woven bags – what your brand should know

Where non-woven bags create the most brand value

Non-woven is the choice when reach per euro invested is what counts. At the supermarket checkout, the bag replaces the single-use carrier and is then out and about in town week after week. At trade fairs and events, every visitor is happy to take a foldable carrier – and carries your design beyond the venue.

The real lever is reuse: unlike a flyer, the bag stays part of your target group’s everyday life and keeps generating new brand contacts. Because it can be stowed away compactly, it ends up in the bin less often and in use more often. The result is a very low cost per contact – the strongest argument for large distribution runs.

Use cases: from giveaway campaigns to store roll-outs

Non-woven is the workhorse for high quantities. For campaigns, product launches, openings and sampling activities, you can hand out the bag in large numbers without breaking the budget. The same advertising medium can be rolled out consistently across multiple stores – as a paid-for or free checkout bag.

Non-woven also works in e-commerce and for goodie bags: as an enclosed carrier bag or to bundle several items, it gets a second life once unpacked. We choose lighter grades for pure giveaways and heavier ones for more strength and a higher-quality feel at the point of sale.

What marketing and procurement gain

Non-woven is very lightweight and foldable, yet tear-resistant enough for repeated use and cost-effective to process in large quantities. The low weight cuts shipping and storage costs – a noticeable advantage for distribution campaigns across several locations.

For your sustainability communication, the material provides solid arguments: the bag is a reusable alternative to the single-use carrier and, at the end of its life, recyclable as single-material polypropylene. Especially with very large runs, the small amount of material per bag makes a positive difference. Production within the EU is also possible on request.

Non-woven or another material?

Choose non-woven when reach and quantity take priority – giveaway and promotional campaigns, trade fair handouts, checkout bags in store roll-outs or enclosed shipping bags. For heavy or damp goods and maximum durability, robust, water-repellent PP woven is the better choice; for premium appearances and corporate gifts, felt, cotton, jute or paper are a better fit. Non-woven is the choice for maximum visibility, not for maximum perceived value.
